Our Story

I wanted to take a few minutes to tell you how I got here.

On Feb 19 2018, (4 months after we moved 600 miles from home & all we'd ever known) I got a 5am phone call from my mom telling me that my "step-dad" was dead. We were not prepared for our world to crash around us that day. Grandpa Dean was one of a kind. He was the kind of Grandpa every kid dreams of having. He was the kind of person everyone should strive to be. Grandpa Dean made everything bigger & brighter! He gardened & grew fruit trees with my kids every year, their favorite was watermelon. Grandpa Dean also loved “treasures”. He loved to tell the kids stories about his collection of Treasures. I’m sure they were all true (wink). Right after he died we moved for the 2nd time & I needed something to occupy my mind as I'd started having frequent panic attacks, so I dug Alexis’s cricut out of storage and taught myself to use it. After a year or so I started dabbling in epoxy tumblers, I collected ALL the glitter & made hundreds of tumblers, I was pretty good at it. When we decided we needed a name for the business Watermelon Treasures just came to me. It was perfect to honor the the man who meant so much to us. In 2000 I bleached my first shirt. It was sooo bad, but here I am years later, still making shirts. Thank you for coming & thank you for supporting my small business.

I wonder what Grandpa Dean would have to say about it.

The picture is from their last watermelon party right before we moved.
